Introduction
The word eclectic pretty well sums me up: someone who derives ideas, style, or taste from a broad range of sources. The word cleric signals decades spent in pastoral ministry and in theological and philosophical reflection. Together, the eclectic cleric points to someone who holds tradition lightly but not carelessly.
Interests and Influences
My interests and influences are genuinely varied: family, people, hospitality, dining out, music, aesthetics, stories and storytelling, tea, Pinot Noir, theology, philosophy, politics, social issues, justice, theatre, comedy, walking, podcasts, literature, football (the round ball variety), fashion, film, silence and solitude.
Substack
You can engage with my thoughts on the odd business of being human on my Eclectic Cleric Substack.
Employment and Education
My professional background spans faith-based organisations, not-for-profit settings, local government, corporate, creative arts, higher education, training and consultancy.
I’m a PhD candidate researching the psychological and theological dynamics of unconditional acceptance and their implications for human flourishing. I hold a Master of Arts in Vocational Practice and Graduate Certificates in both Research Methodologies and Professional Supervision.
Projects
Current projects include the early-stage development of a musical theatre production set in Melbourne's CBD — a retelling of the Jesus story for those who wouldn't ordinarily encounter it — and a collection of personal stories about unconditional acceptance.
